this painting symbolizes the journey to healing and rebirth. traversing from the crevices of the mountains and following the stream, we’re guided to dive deep into the ocean that is our subconscious mind. exploring and becoming comfortable with the depths and darkness of our inner beliefs and emotions.

growing up as a little girl, i was terrified of snakes and what i considered to be their “sinful” nature- the portrayal of the devil in the adam and eve story.

along my journey, and my avoidance of that which made me uncomfortable, i discovered the snake was a placeholder for the shame of my own perceptions. the shame of knowing more than you should. the shame of being hidden in the ground.

so i followed the rivers and climbed the mountains, to find we’re not so different- you and i.

because of the snakes i am found.
